The American Birkebeiner is made up of several
ski events in addition to the 50K and 54K marathons and is one of the largest
cross country ski races in North America. It is also part of the prestigious
Worldloppet League. Three days of competition also include the Elite Sprints on
Main Street in downtown Hayward, Barnebirkie, Junior Birkie and 5K/10K Family

Fishing Has No
Boundaries - Hayward Chapter Annual Event
May 17-19, 2013
Taking place at
the Lake Chippewa Campground; this is the "Granddaddy" of all the events, where
the first event was held on the Chippewa Flowage in 1988. Since that time, over
1500 participants and triple the amount of volunteers at this 3-day event have
been involved in a fishing experience that might have only been a dream to
some. Experienced guides, boats, bait, fish cleaning, meals, emergency medical
care, awards, and prizes await each eager participant who attends the Hayward

Backroads Banderdinker® Paddle

What is the Banderdinker? As you might have
guessed, there is nothing too serious about the Banderdinker! It is a kayak or
canoe paddle around the Big Island of Nelson Lake near Hayward, Wisconsin! This
is a non-competitive 5-mile paddle around the Big Island of Nelson Lake.
Live music and fun surprises make this a truly special event! New for
2013 will be a Mini 'Dinker event for youth and an After Paddle

Musky Festival
June 20 - 23, 2013
Hayward's
largest summer celebration of the great fishing history of Wisconsin's
northwoods. Held annually the weekend following Father's Day in downtown
Hayward. The weekend includes the crowning of our Musky Festival Queen,
sidewalk sales, large handmade arts & crafts show, live music, children's
games, great food booths, Musky Run, fishing contest and a carnival. Everyone
will enjoy regional musicians during Friday and Saturday night street dances.

Honor The Earth Pow-Wow

The largest Pow-wow in North America, the Honor the Earth
Pow-wow celebrates the annual gathering of the tribes to honor mother earth and
the Creator in celebratory drumming, dancing and song the third weekend of July
in Hayward. Traditional Native American music, dancing, crafts and food create
an authentic tribal experience. The Lac Courte Oreilles Royalty Coronation,
special recognition ceremonies, social singing and dancing, a traditional
cooking contest, a run/walk, softball tournament and golf tournament are among
the featured events.

Sawyer County Fair

The 105th
Annual Sawyer County Fair promotes and encourages education, agriculture, the
arts and entertainment through an annual fair and associated event. It has been
in existence for over one hundred years. Families, youth and adults may enjoy
different programs and activities that promote positive youth and young adult

Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival

Each year in
mid-September, thousands of fat tired fliers descend on the towns of Cable and
Hayward in northwestern Wisconsin to take on the off-road bicycle tests of
endurance and agility offered during the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival weekend.
Since its inception in 1983, the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival has built a
popularity and reputation that is unmatched in the sport today. From the 27
hardy cyclists who lined up to challenge the unknown trails of the Chequamegon
in the first year, to the sold out limited field of 2,500 who are chosen by a

Featuring over
$35,000 in prizes and 17 Tournament Lakes, the Hayward Lakes Chapter Muskies,
Inc. fall total release tournament is one of the finest in North America.
Proceeds from the tournament are used by the Hayward Lakes Chapter for stocking
and projects to improve Musky fishing. The Grand Prize Drawing
& Awards Ceremony will take place on Sunday in Hayward. Only
tournament entrants are eligible to win the grand prize and must be present to
win.
